Obituary for Henry Franklin Lucas

Henry Franklin Lucas “Frank” departed this earth, Monday, January 28, 2019 at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford, DE. He was 80.

He was born May 18, 1938, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Earnest Franklin Lucas and Lillie Belle Williams Lucas.

Upon graduation from high school he entered the United States Air Force where he served in the last part of the Korean War and 2 assist tours in Vietnam. During his state side tours in the military, he attended college and received both BS and MS Degrees. After retiring from the military after 30 years of service he was employed by the Pennsylvania Civil Service Commission, Veterans Administration and US Postal Management. In 1990 he moved to Delaware and was employed as a teacher for Smyrna then Caesar Rodney School Districts. Prior to moving he was a member of Mother Bethel AME Church in Philadelphia for 43 years. After moving to Delaware and until his death he attended Calvary Church in Dover, where he very much enjoyed the ministries of Pastor Ronald Coon.

Most of us dream of being a champion, for Frank it was a reality. He was a warrior, having served 2 wars, a consultant, educator, public servant and a humanitarian. On a daily basis he gave precious gifts of love and encouragement to all he met. He was well known for his wisdom, wit and mischievous sense of humor. Frank had received letters of appreciation from Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama. He was a member of the Professional Management Association and author of “Make Peace With Your Mind”.

He leaves to mourn his wife, Angela Lucas; son, Anthony, step son, Stephen and step daughter Angela, brothers, Edmund and Emery, three grandsons, three granddaughters, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held 12 Noon, Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at Calvary Church, 1141 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.
