Obituary for Barry Lee Foor

Barry Lee Foor (11-2-1960 to 5-7-2020)

Barry Lee Foor, deeply beloved husband of Debora, died early Thursday morning, May 7, 2020, after a courageous year-long battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer. Barry and Debora met April 23, 1988 and married April 4, 1998, living with and raising Debora’s two young daughters from an earlier marriage, Amelia and Veronica. He will be missed in sorrow that he is gone and in joy that he lived. “I carry your heart in my heart.”

Barry was born November 2, 1960 in the small town of Everett, PA to his parents, Roger E. Foor and Juanita (Riley) Foor and lived there through high school and upon graduation with an associate’s degree in automotive technology from Vale Technical School in Blairsville, PA. He joined the United States Air Force in 1985 as an aircraft maintenance specialist, choosing Dover Air Force Base to continue to be close to his family in PA. He was honorably discharged in 1988. He worked as a union pipefitter/welder from 1988 until 2002, when he decided to pursue a lifelong passion for physical fitness and health by changing careers. He earned two degrees from Delaware Technical & Community College, first in Exercise Science and then in the Physical Therapy Assistant program, working as a personal trainer for Nancy Hawkins Rigg at Forever Fit Foundation and soon after as a licensed Physical Therapy Assistant for Mike Walsh Physical Therapy. He loved his clients at Forever Fit and his patients at MWPT, and he was deeply honored and moved by their demonstrations of support following his cancer diagnosis. He also pursued a lifelong passion for music, learning to play the drums and guitar as an adult. Debora supported and was very proud of Barry’s accomplishments.

Barry and Debora enjoyed each other’s company and the company of their grandchildren, caring for their home and garden, bicycling and working out, enjoying healthy diets and the weekly indulgent food, beach vacations, music, and binging TV shows, especially Curb Your Enthusiasm and Survivor and anything that made them laugh.

In addition to his wife Debora and his parents, Barry is survived by his two daughters (by marriage), Amelia Shannon Martin of Lacey, Washington and Veronica Sue Martin of Dover, Delaware; by his three grandchildren, Rowan Madeline Martin White, Ophelia Rue Martin White, and Eli Archer Martin White, all of Dover, Delaware, who adored their Pop-Pop; by his brother Lynn Foor and wife Catherine Stover-Foor of Aaronsburg, PA and their three children and four grandchildren; by his sister Kelly Foor of Catonsville, MD and her two children; by his parents-in-law Charles E. and Lucille Bell of Ft. Smith, Arkansas; by his mother-in-law Barbara Beachy of Felton, Delaware; by his siblings-in-law, Patti (Bell) Donophan and her husband Carl; Laura Bell-Burkett and her husband Craig; and Cindy (Bell) Rust and her husband Steve; and their children and grandchildren; and by uncles and aunts and their children and grandchildren.

Services will be held privately. Torbert’s Funeral Chapels, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover, Delaware has been entrusted with the arrangements in this difficult pandemic time. Online condolences may be left for the family at: Debora and the family hope to host a celebration of Barry’s life in the summer if the coronavirus pandemic permits a safe gathering of those who loved Barry. Debora and her family offer their heartfelt thanks for the kind and thoughtful support they have received over the past year in the form of kind words, thoughts and prayers, cards, and gifts. Without this support, a very difficult journey would have been close to impossible.
