Biography
Dora “Alice” McFarland of Hartly died Tuesday August 30, 2011 at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital, Gloucester, VA. She was 81.
Mrs. McFarland was born September 1, 1929 in Centerville, Maryland.
She was a homemaker and loved Delaware History. Mrs. McFarland was a life member of the Hartly Volunteer Fire Company Women’s Auxiliary. She was one of the founding ladies of the auxiliary in 1958 as well as a member of VFW ladies auxiliary in Clayton, Post #8801. Mrs. McFarland was also a member of the State Federation of Republican Women
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband William Monroe McFarland in 2003.
She is survived by her son, William W. McFarland and his wife Jean of Gettysburg, Pa; daughter, Kathleen Mitchell and her husband David “Tex” of Churchview, VA; grandchildren, Jennifer and Joe Forbes, Timothy McFarland, William Machen, Amelia Phillips and her husband Scott, Misty Justis and her husband Thomas and Sunday Mitchell; great grandchildren; Kimberly Price, Maria, Megan and Stephen Forbes, Zachariah Price and Elizabeth Justis.
Funeral services will be held 11am Saturday, September 3, 2011 at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford Street, Dover. Friends may call Friday evening from 6-8. Interment will be in the Hartly Methodist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the Hartly Vol. Fire Company, PO Box 28, Hartly, DE 19953 or the Central Middlesex Volunteer Rescue Squad, 340 Old Virginia Street, Urbanna, VA 23175.
