Nancy H. Taylor

April 27, 1934 - May 24, 2011

Biography

Nancy H. Taylor died at Kent General Hospital on Tuesday, May 24, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 77 years old. Nancy will be remembered for having participated in one of the first successful pediatric kidney transplants in Delaware in 1975, when she gave her son, Bill, a kidney.

She was a 1952 graduate of Hinton High School in Hinton, West Virginia. She received her Bachelor’s degree in education from Concord College in 1956. Her teaching career spanned 1956-1999 in the states of West Virginia, Virginia, and Delaware. Nancy taught in the Capital School District from 1967-1999 retiring from Towne Point Elementary School. She received her Masters of Instruction in Reading from the University of Delaware in 1983. A career educator, she remained active in her teaching sorority, ADK, until the end of her life.

Nancy came from a proud tradition of educators. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Taylor, former principal of William Henry Middle School, in 1977 and by her son, William H. Taylor, a special education teacher in the Smyrna School District, in 2003.

Nancy is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert J. Taylor and Linda G. Taylor, and her beloved grandson, Cody W. Taylor, of Dover. She is also survived by her sister, Sandra H. Clark, of Pearisburg, Virginia. Cody’s chocolate lab, Scout, should probably receive equal billing.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 27th at 11 AM in the sanctuary at Wesley United Methodist Church, 209 South State Street, Dover. Friends may call on Thursday evening, May 26th, from 6 to 8 PM at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 South Bradford Street. Interment will be in the family plot at Restwood Cemetery, Hinton, West Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Wesley United Methodist Church, 209 South State Street, Dover, DE. 19901-6727, or to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way # 205, New Castle, DE 19720-1633.
