Biography
Ronald “Ronnie” Garrett of Dover died after a long illness Friday March 5, 2010 in Silver Lake Nursing home. He was 58.
Ronnie graduated from Smyrna High School in 1969 where he enjoyed playing sports including varsity football, track and baseball. After graduation, Ronnie attended Delaware State College for one year before accepting an apprentice position as a mason. Ronnie became a highly skilled mason and worked for several area mason contractors throughout his thirty-four year career including Edward J. Wilkinson with whom he was employed until 2005. He took great pride in his work and supervised many major projects including the Anna P. Mote Elementary School, Astra Zeneca and Hotel DuPont in Wilmington.
Ronnie was an avid Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan and enjoyed visiting the Connie Mac stadium and later, Veterans Stadium to see live games. He was passionate about music and played guitar throughout his life. Ronnie was a devoted volunteer coach for both of his sons’ Little League teams.
Ronnie’s beloved wife, Sue, of thirty-one years passed away in 2006. Ronnie is also predeceased by his mother and father, Kay and Roland Garrett.
Ronnie is survived by his son Michael Garrett and daughter-in-law, Leanne, of Milford, Delaware, grandsons Tyler and Hayden, and son Matthew Garrett of Dover. He is also survived by his sister, Elizabeth (Susie) Allman and her husband, Todd, of Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania. Ronnie will be missed by many loving family members and friends.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, March 13, 2010, at Torbert Funeral Home, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover, where friends may call one hour prior.
