Biography
Betty Emma Taylor Wootten passed away after a long illness on the evening of January 25, 2010. She was 86.
Betty was born on November 17, 1923 to Bertha Mae Conner Taylor and John Wesley Taylor of Poplar Grove Farm, Magnolia, Delaware, the family farm where she and her older sister, Hazel, were raised.
After graduating from high school, Betty moved to Wilmington, De, where she worked for the DuPont Company. She met Fred, her husband of 47 years, on a blind date while still in high school. Betty raised well their three children, with love, tolerance, and grace – Dennis, Janet, and Drew. Betty traveled fearlessly, moved without effort in many circles, mastered many arts, and touched countless lives. She was a member of Wesley Church for over a half-century, serving on the Board of Trustees and as a choir member. Betty was a member of the Dover Century Club and the Garden Club. She was vivacious and intellectually curious and had a passion for beauty and the arts. Mom was tough. And funny. She loved fiercely her grandchildren – Seth, Conner, Adam, and April – and all of her other family and her friends. We miss her terribly.
Services will be held 2PM Sunday, January 31, 2010 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10). Friends may call one hour before. Interment following the service at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.
The family requests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. Dupont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
