Biography

Wayne I. Newman of Dover died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family following a short illness, Thursday December 3, 2009. He was 77.

He was born January 8, 1932 in Blythe, Georgia to the late Waldo and Alberta Newman.

Mr. Newman proudly served in the United States Army as a combat veteran during the Korean War and then served in the United States Air Force. He became a disabled veteran in 1971. Mr. Newman was a lifetime member of both DAV and the American Legion. He enjoyed tinkering with old cars and his “special projects”. Mr. Newman enjoyed NASCAR and watching the Atlanta Braves. He played softball for the DAFB. Mr. Newman was most famous for cooking good ole southern BBQ on his self made BBQ pit. He was generous to all that knew him, lending a hand, offering assistance or just being there whenever he was needed.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Betty Earl Kersey and brother, Ricky Newman.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ruby B. Newman of Dover; sons, Mark W. Newman, Richard Newman and his wife Dawn, Michael K. Newman; daughter, Bobbi Harless all of Dover; sister, Helen Bedolla and her husband Rick of Thatcher, AZ three granddaughters, Jamie and Leslie Newman of Ft. Myers and Jennifer Carlson of Felton; and a great granddaughter, Brooke Erinn Carlson.

Memorial services will be held 1pm Tuesday December 8, 2009 at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford Street, Dover, DE.
